Penn And Teller — Fool Us is a competition for magic TV show that features magicians who perform tricks in front of American comedian-magician duo Penn & Teller. Its initial 2 seasons featured expert host Jonathan Ross, and the 2nd season from that point on by the Penn And Teller – Fool Us Host Alyson Hannigan.

Each episode starts off with the introduction stating the reason for the series. Penn & Teller come out and sit down at the stage. The eager magicians will perform their magic before them in front of a a live studio audience. Following each performance, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal if they know how the trick was executed, usually using cryptic language or writing down the method and presenting it privately to the magicians to confirm, so that they aren’t publicly exposing the method behind the trick.

Season seven will start filming on October 16th, 2022.

What’s Happening with Penn and Teller: Fool Us?

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn & Teller Theater located in Las Vegas (season two onward). Each time a show is performed, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how the trick was done, and the magician(s) who performed it are awarded a Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip in Las Vegas to perform as the opening act in Penn & Teller’s show also at the Rio Hotel & Casino.

The ninth season debuted on the
5th of October 2021.

When the illusion is authentic, or Penn & Teller are unable to determine how it was accomplished, the magician wins a Fool Us award and the chance to be the opening act of Penn & Teller’s Las Vegas show.

A backstage judge, who is well-versed in the methods of magic, and who has seen the trick prior to the show and makes any necessary adjustments, regardless of whether Penn & Teller were fooled and, if they were, to what degree.

From Season 3 onward, from season three, the top ten performers who successfully fooled Penn & Teller are invited to return for an episode special from Fool Us in which they each will repeat their trick and attempt to fool Penn and Teller again for a further $15000 cash prize.

Raymond Teller remains quiet throughout the course of the show, however they communicate using subtle gestures to each other. They have been known to talk with magicians performing and ask them to repeat certain movements or give more details.
